Prenatal Support
“Labour is a neuro-hormonal event—when the mind and body feel safe, labour is more likely to progress physiologically.” – World Health Organization
Services
Childbirth Education
Using evidence information, we will review the physiology of labor, birth, and lactation and help you feel informed, empowered and confident in the process.
Birth Planning
We will discuss your hopes and values around birth and design a birth plan based on your preferences and needs. With a compassionate heart I will listen to any concerns and fears and offer guidance and tools to help tame them. We will discuss what to expect in your birthing environment, standard procedures and interventions, what questions to ask and how to know when they are necessary.
Preparing Your Body and Baby for Birth
Drawing upon the Body Ready Method, I can develop an individualized movement program to help you create space and mobility in your body for a more efficient labor and birth. With Spinning Babies Techniques we can also work to get baby well positioned in your pelvis. Nutrition will also be discussed to support labor and lactation.
Pain Coping Strategies
Together, we will work to help you feel more confident in coping with the discomfort of labor. I will share comfort tools based on breath, relaxation, movement, massage, thermotherapy, vocalization and more.
Building a Positive Birthing Mindset
Using affirmations, visualizations, grounding techniques, mindfulness practices, and birth art, we will build your positive mindset for birth and motherhood and help you tap into trust, intuition and inner strength.
Trauma Education
We will explore ways to reduce the chances of experiencing trauma in birth. Our goal is to help you feel like an active participant in your birth no matter what twists and turns it might take. We will discuss the importance of informed consent and how to navigate the unexpected.
Preparation for Partner
Together we will explore what type of support feels best from your partner and practice it. Instruction in soothing touch and partner massage is offered. I will address any of your partner’s concerns and learn what your partner needs the most to feel confident and at ease in their role.
Breastfeeding Preparation
As you get close to birthing we will review breastfeeding basics, how to help baby get a good latch, nursing positions, and what to expect in the first weeks of breastfeeding.
Setting Yourself up for Success in Postpartum
We will discuss your support strategies, newborn care, sibling preparation, and what recovery might look like in the postpartum period.
